International Patent Licensing Academy is one-week program in Helsinki targeted for international lawyers, patent attorneys, technology managers and scientific professionals who want to understand models for successful patent portfolio management and patent licensing. The participants will learn strategies and tactics for maximizing the success of R&D investment.

The course will cover topics such as patenting strategies, patent portfolio management, patent licensing programs, patent licensing agreements, patent markets and patents in commercial agreements. The focus of the course will be on U.S.-style revenue-generating programs and strategies that companies use to defend themselves. The course will involve class room presentations and case studies.

The morning sessions of the 5-day program will focus on patent licensing, the afternoon session includes various related legal topics, such as IP in China, EU Unitary Patent and case law clinics. The optional evening program includes a company visit and a dinner cruise to archipelago of Helsinki.

This unique course is targeting to be one of the best insights into the growing world of patent licensing. The lecturers include some of leading global names in the licensing industry. This first day of the Patent Licensing Academy sets the scene for more in-depth dive into patent licensing. It discusses success stories and failures in licensing, how various parties behave and why, and introduces the topical global trends and discussion items through case studies and personal experiences of the moderator Vice President, Sr. General Manager Fumihiko Moriya, Sony Corporation.

PATENT DAY

Tuesday, June 10, 9:00 – 12:00

The second day of the Patent Licensing Academy focuses on patents, and how one prepares for patent licensing discussions. It discusses how to analyze patents, how to defend against patent assertions, how to build a patent portfolio for licensing and how to introduce arguments about patents in licensing discussions. LICENSING CONTRACTS
Wednesday, June 11, 9:00 – 12:00                                       

The third day of the Patent Licensing Academy focuses on licensing contracts, the key terms of contracts, and how to negotiate licensing contracts. BUILDING LICENSING PROGRAMS

The fourth day of the Patent Licensing Academy focuses on planning and building patent licensing programs, various alternatives to implement licensing programs, and the key regulatory issues related to licensing programs. Moderator Ilkka Rahnasto, Nokia Corporation.

LITIGATION AROUND LICENSING PROGRAMS – LEADERSHIP
Friday, June 13, 9:00 – 12:00                                                

The last day of the Patent Licensing Academy focuses on litigation around patent licensing, how to approach litigation, and the most commonly used litigation strategies. The Patent Licensing Academy will conclude by discussing leadership in patent licensing, and how to develop oneself as a leader in licensing.
