Dialogue of Experts: AI & Copyright – A European Perspective

AI & Copyright – A European Perspective
This webinar will focus on the tensions between AI and copyright, which is currently a highly debated and practical issue in Europe and globally.
João Quintais will explore the intersection of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act and related instruments, such as the GPAI Code of Practice and the AI Office’s Transparency Template, with the EU copyright acquis. He will aim to clarify the relationship between AI regulation and copyright law. He will also identify areas of legal ambiguity and gaps that may influence future policymaking, including the upcoming review of the Copyright in the Digital Single Market Directive.
Martin Senftleben will focus on appropriate remuneration for the use of human literary and artistic works in the development of generative AI models, discussing both individual licensing initiatives and collective remuneration solutions. He will contrast the current trend towards individual licensing with potential advantages of collective approaches and lumpsum remuneration schemes. An assessment of the various regulatory options in light of competing policy objectives – fair remuneration on the one hand, sufficient training resources for culturally diverse AI models on the other – concludes the discussion.
Vilhelm Schröder will moderate the webinar.
