IPR University Center arranges online seminar series Technological Sustainability of IP Law. Online seminar series consist of 5 dialogues of experts. The seminar series brings together academics and business by featuring academic experts and top practitioners in the field of IPR. The audience is warmly welcome to engage in the discussion by asking questions to the speakers.

Irene Calboli, Professor, Texas A&M University School of Law (moderator)

Professor Calboli is well-known expert of IP, international trade and economic law, food and agriculture law, fashion law and EU law.

Gordon Humphreys, Chairperson of the EUIPO First Board of Appeal

Gordon Humphreys holds an LL.B from the University of Buckingham (UK), an LL.M from the University of Wales, Cardiff, and a master`s degree in economic law from the University of Liège (Belgium) as well as a post-graduate diploma from the University of Alicante (Spain). He qualified as a barrister of England and Wales and was admitted to the Brussels Bar as an avocat in 1994. Following a period in private practice in Luxembourg, he joined the Legal Department of the EUIPO in 1997, acting in several of the earliest trade mark cases before the (then) Court of First Instance. He was Head of the Register Service from 2002-2005 before taking up his duties as a member of the Boards of Appeal in December 2005, handling both trade mark and design cases. Between 2014 and 2019, he chaired the Fifth Board of Appeal, before taking up his current duties as Chairperson of the First Board of Appeal.

He has published a number of articles on trade marks and designs in leading IP journals and is a contributing author in Hassleblatt, ‘Community Design Regulation (Commentary)’, C.H. Beck Hart Nomos, 2018 as well as being a regular speaker at conferences.

He is also qualified as a mediator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is a mediator with the EUIPO Boards of Appeal Alternative Dispute Resolution Service. He co-authored ‘Mediation: Creating Value in International Intellectual Property Disputes’, Wolters Kluwer (2018).

Gökçen Uzer Çengelci, Trademark Counsel at TrademarkNow 

Gokcen Uzer Cengelci, Trademark Counsel on the R&D team at TrademarkNow, has more than 15 years of experience in trademark prosecution and portfolio strategies. Prior to joining TrademarkNow, Gokcen worked as a Trademark Attorney at Deris and Ankara Patent. While working as an attorney she also had the opportunity to work on R&D projects to develop AI technologies for creating legal standards and modeling of complex legal process based projects. Currently she provides trademark law expertise for AI model development at TrademarkNow.

Gokcen has an LLM from Ankara University and MSc from Hanken School of Economics.

She has participated in several AIPPI questionnaires and today she is serving as a member of the INTA Publications Committee.
