Digital Copyright – Metadata in Copyright Law
Attribution right is one of the key elements of copyright. It is often vital for an author to be acknowledged and credited as the creator of a work and also important in order to license their work. In the world of physical pieces of work, such as books or cds, it is easy to find the information about the creators and copyright owners. However, in the internet this information is often lost as the file containing the work moves from one website to another. One solution for identifying the author in digital environment is metadata which is embedded to the file.
In this lecture you will learn about copyright metadata: what it is, how is it regulated and what the future holds for copyright information in the digital environment.
