Warmly welcome to IPR University Center’s and University of Turku’s (Faculty of Law) online seminar about Meta’s approaches to governance and content moderation.

In this seminar, Meta’s Nicola Aitken, Content Policy Manager, and Gabrielle Guillemin, Human Rights Policy Manager, will outline Meta’s principles to balancing free expression while keeping users safe online. They will cover how Meta develops the policies underpinning their apps, the use of AI in content moderation, how Meta seeks to protect human rights in all parts of the business and finally explore what good transparency and accountability looks like.

Nicola Aitken sits within Meta’s Content Policy Stakeholder Engagement team. Her role is to work with external stakeholders to bring independent, expert feedback into Meta’s policy making processes. Previously she was a policy manager at Full Fact, the UK’s independent fact checking charity. She also worked at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in the UK Government, where she developed policies to address online misinformation, tech accountability, and wider media and broadcasting policies.

Gabrielle Guillemin has been in the Meta Human Rights Policy team since September 2021. Prior to Meta, Gabrielle worked for 10 years as a senior lawyer at ARTICLE 19, an international free speech organisation, where she led the work on digital rights issues, including platform regulation and content moderation across a wide range of content. Gabrielle also worked as a lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights.

Moderator of the online seminar is Liudmila Sivetc, Post-Doctoral Researcher, University of Turku
