UPC Mock Trial

UPC Mock Trial – 21.4.2023

The Finnish AIPPI Group offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the upcoming UPC and unitary patent system by organizing a UPC Mock Trial on Friday 21 April 2023. The Mock Trial will be organized together with the Market Court of Finland and will be held at the Market Court’s premises in Helsinki, Finland (Sörnäistenkatu 1, 00580 Helsinki). The event is scheduled to start at 13:00 and end by 17:00 with a coffee break included.

The panel will consist of three UPC qualified judges with Judges Petri Rinkinen (FIN), Sam Granata (BE) and Stefan Johansson (SWE). The panel also includes Kirsikka Etuaho (FIN) as a UPC qualified technical judge. 

The parties to the case study lawsuit are represented by Juhani Sinkkonen (Roschier), Vilhelm Schröder (Hannes Snellman), Saara Lapiolahti (Borenius) and Wilma Kivilä (Borenius). The Mock Trial will be moderated by the President of Finnish AIPPI Group Johanna Lilja.

The Mock Trial deals with a fictional ”vacuum cleaner” case which explores the issues on procedure, infringement, and validity in light of the upcoming UPC and unitary patent system which will begin to operate as of 1 June 2023.

The price of the event for a Finnish AIPPI Group member will be 60 € (+vat 24%), and the price for a non-member will be 230 € (+vat 24%). Organizations with an active organization membership may register 1-2 persons from the organization with the discounted price. The prices include a coffee and a snack. To get the most out of this unique opportunity, the Finnish AIPPI Group recommends attending the Mock Trial in person, but it will be possible to follow the event via livestream or recording after the event (online participation is subject to same prices). The places available on site are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The registration for the live event ends on Tuesday 18 April 2023 and for the online stream on Thursday 20 April 2023.
